Why Would Someone Be So Rude?

Melanie, at Old Country Gardens blog, received a very rude comment to one of her posts the other day.

Ok, I don't get that! If you have nothing nice to say - say nothing. (your Mom's voice is echoing in your head right now, isn't it?) Hmm, maybe that's why I don't get too many comments. Mine are only from the diplomats among the gardeners because the rest would rather say nothing? lol.

I mean honestly, do these people lead such boring lives that they have nothing better to do with their time than slam someone's garden? People work hard to get their yards to look so beautiful (yeah, I drool over pics daily) and even if they say a flame doesn't hurt, I don't think anyone is that thick-skinned.

I've seen people take things the wrong way when read. A few times. Let's face it, tone doesn't really transfer well in type. I usually reread my comments (unless I'm time crunched) a few times to make sure it wouldn't be perceived as something I didn't mean, but that doesn't always work. Contrary to my numerous rants, I'm a pretty nice person. I would never, ever hurt someone's feelings intentionally. See, that's why I have such a problem with Blotanical-who wants to have hurt feelings for not being 'favorited' or ranked high or not receiving a perk for being toward the bottom of the ranks?

Maybe these rude flamer people should waste some of that spare time gardening! :)

*And spellcheck is on the fritz again. ~sigh~

Tina - come on!!! Join Blotanical so I can add you to my favorites list!!!! ;)

No, on a serious note, blotanical is about much more than ranking stuff. I'll never be at the top of any of those lists and I'm OK with that. I like it becuase it's about the easiest way to get a snapshot view of all the great gardening blogs out there (except yours of course grrr). Plus I love the message functionality. Just my 2 cents.

Hiya Gina!
lol, keep trying.
I'm a stubborn wench and still in boycott mode. I'll stick with The Power Guide for now.
:)
I really, really wish I could take pics, too!
You have any idea how bad it sucks to be so excited about something and you can't even show anyone what it is you're excited about? Ugh! lol, and it would have been nice to post a pic of my 'weed' so people could have told me that's what it was!

Sorry you don't get more comments. Maybe you just have a lot of lurkers like me. I adore your posts on cliques and comments. I agree wholeheartedly. I even did a post on it myself. I haven't joined Blotanical because I haven't been able to grasp the necessity of a "social networking site". I have a life and gardens in two towns. I don't have time to hang out on the computer for hours socially networking.

Caren,
I enjoy social networking on occasion, but rarely. What I want when I'm reading garden blogs is to learn something, not to really 'chat'. I mean, I know people have made great friends networking, but it isn't really what I'm after. I find it intrigueing that my comments to blogs don't (mostly) fit with others' comments as I rarely do 'chatty', but do try to either give information that they're looking for or at least point them in the right direction by giving them a link for an article or online tool of some sort. I know that's boring to most people, but to each his own, I guess.

I don't mind not getting comments, but I just wish people would do the favor of leaving more information about what I'm after if they have it.

Hmmm...after all that, can you believe that I set up a couple people online 5 years ago from 2 different continents and they are getting married this year? Yeah, I used to be quite the social butterfly! lol. Maybe I've just been 'networking' so long that I can see the signs of bad things to come and have already learned the 'lesson'? Wow, that needed a whole new post.

I left a comment the other day and you seemed quite lovely and chatty to me. :o)
I'll still visit, now I can... and I am no good in the garden although I will occasionally blog about a randome plant or two.
I wonder if your commenting situation is down restrictions on your blog. I just remember that I had to have a blogger account to comment. :o)
We'll make an agreement now... You keep gardening and I'll keep popping over to leave random chatty comments. :o)

Hiya Serenity!
Thanks for dropping by again.
:)
I'd love it if you left random chatty comments. That'd be grand!
The comments things confuses me a bunch - I know some Wordpress people can comment, but sometimes I can't comment on Wordpress! Now, really, what's up with that, I wonder? I know it's the way 'comments' is set, but I just can't wrap my brain around it.
