I Don't Get It

.
~Huge whine alert~

I mention something cool and no one says anything.
Weeks or months later someone else mentions basically the same thing and suddenly it's cool.
I just don't get it.
OK, I do . . . I'm just not cool enough.
I'm being passed by (and over) at lightning speed.
Why do people who've just discovered gardening in the last few years suddenly have every bit of thought that comes out of their mouths taken as gospel as though they've become some overnight master of growing things? (ok, sorry, whole 'nother rant)
I'm apparently just not young enough or hip enough.
Pfffttt! Fine, what-evvvv.
I think I prefer my ancient but knowledgeable status much better.

~whine ended~
Carry on.

I am happy to say I have no idea what I am doing and some how that makes it more fun. Whine on my friend!

Chasing after popularity is a losing race.

Do what you love. If you feel compelled to write about it, and if that writing brings you fulfillment, that's great.

What? You want to be famous for being famous like Paris Hilton? Keep writing, keep commenting, and you will find your circle of like-minded bloggers. You can always leave an enticing comment on the popular post that set off your rant ...

Hiya, Dirt Digger,
I know what you mean! :)
When everything is an experiment or surprise, it just seems more fun.

Hey, Lisa and Robb,
No, I don't want to be popular! I just don't understand how people who have to research what their writing about, because they don't know what their writing about (heh), should have people hanging on their every word when they don't really know what their talking about, ya know? :)

Hey there, Elephant's eye,
*I* don't want to be famous, I just don't understand how people who don't know anything about gardening get to tell other people how to do it just because they're perceived as 'cool'. lol, kinda like Paris Hilton telling someone how to assemble a jet engine :O

Hmm...I sometimes struggle with these thoughts as well. I don't understand why some blogs are popular, and some aren't. I don't understand why everyone just doesn't think I'm the funniest thing on earth :P

I wouldn't let it make you that upset though. Be happy with your own niche that you've carved out in the blogiverse, even if it isn't a massive one.

Hi, Kyna,
I'm not really that upset, more disconcerted by the whole thing. It wasn't a blog that got me musing, but a forum. It pretty much encompasses all media when it comes to gardening, I guess - blogs, twitter, newspapers, forums, videos etc. There is so much misinformation out there passed on from people who got that misinformation passed on to them from someone who didn't know any better. It's all so confusing!! lol.

By now (Monday) you have moved on to
Alien flower forms and Nastutiums and things look brighter, perhaps.

Online popularity has less to do with being young and hip than with developing a following. Write for yourself and cultivate other gardeners.

When I first joined Blotanical, I scrutinized the more popular members. Their success mostly seemed to come from how they interacted with others rather than any vast body of knowledge they possess. The same was true when I spent time on a garden forum.

Maybe it is kind of like high school. The best scholars are not frequently elected cheerleader.
