First Sunday of the month, so that means - here is the next GROW Project post.
First, the updates.
The one's I WS'd in April have been transplanted into hanging baskets with the pansies I started from seed. I ended up with 6 out of 10 seeds germinating. They've doubled in size and here is how they look now on June 6th:
Next up are the ones I started inside on May 2nd. 6 out of the 9 I sowed germinated. I'll be transplanting them into pots and flowerbeds here and there around the yard today.
And today I'll also be sowing the last of the seeds - 10 in the huge pots by the pond and the final 10 will go directly in the ground at the edge of my front flowerbed. Hopefully, the germination rates will improve. I guess we'll see! :)

I keep thinking I should have wintersown mine in the first place -- then that whole forgetting about them thing that happened to mine this year wouldn't have been such a big deal :-) Yours are looking great!
Yay for winter-sowing. I didn't have as much luck as you this year, though I've winter-sowed plenty in my time. :)
Oooh, I bet the Spitfires will look great with those pansies. Good combo idea!

yeah, WSing them seemed to work out pretty well, though my inside sown ones still look pretty darn healthy, too. I just wish the germ rate was higher. The old seed I had hanging around had better germ rates!

I've been WSing for seven years so pretty much know what works well for me and what isn't worth the bother. I figured these should work out ok as nasties in general do very well WS'd for me anyways. :)

Thanks, but I'm still not too sure how bright orangy/red is going to look against purple (although I DO love red and purple salvias together). I figure the pansies will peter out in time and the nasties will take over the show. I hope. lol
Your nasties look like they are doing great. I like that you used a couple of different techniques to get them started.
I've been around to several other blogs and keep seeing "nasties" with the same general appearance. But I'm a bit behind with visits so I'm guessing all of them have shown some improvement. I'm not very impressed with my one 'Spitfire.' It's in a pot with a black-eyed Susan vine and I'm allowing both to trail out and down. Perhaps my "nastie" doesn't like the downward spiral? I didn't get around to planting any more seed until today, I know that's late but maybe these will do better than the one as the season progresses.
